About Us
Background
We are a peace and justice group based in Manhattan, Kansas. Since 1992, we have been sponsoring peace activities, speakers and forums.
MAPJ's Mission Statement
The Manhattan Alliance for Peace and Justice will educate and organize for peace and social justice at home and abroad. We believe this requires more equal access to wealth and well-being for all members of our community and nation, a world community based on peaceful conflict resolution, freedom from economic exploitation, universal human rights, and cooperation among nations for the preservation of our planet's environment.

Legislative Action
MAPJ has organized a coalition of peace groups to keep communication open with US Representative Lynn Jenkins and to make her aware of the progressive viewpoint among her constituency. The group also sponsors letter writing and emergency phone campaigns.
Community Education
MAPJ sponsors speakers and public programs on issues that create new opportunities for political action by our members. Our newsletter reaches about 1000 households with information and analysis on a wide range of peace and justice concerns. We offer speakers for churches, schools and civic organization on a variety of topics. We also have a video library available to anyone. MAPJ distributes information sheets on Tax Day at the Post Office and other community events. We often work with other organizations to co-sponsor events.
Flint Hills GI Rights Hotline
The Flint Hills GI Rights Hotline, sponsored by MAPJ along with several other organizations, is a network of trained lay counselors which provides information to help GIs and their families understand their rights and options. The Hotline accepts calls regarding military regulations and options concerning the following issues: discharge status, conscientious objection, GI rights and truth in recruitment. The service is free and private. The network does not report to any military or government agency. Phone: 1-800-819-3225; Website: www.flinthillsgirights.com.
In 2008, MAPJ sponsored the two day training workshop that lead to the creation of the GI Rights Hotline.
Campus Activism
MAPJ supports students attending national protests and leadership training, and funds an organizer on the K-State campus to develop leadership and assist in creating the next generation of social activists.
